The Remote Closeness team paid close attention to the different materials used in setting up the Shifting Grounds exhibition as well as the waste left behind. A separate room was designed to display all the waste that the exhibition set-up produced as an honest depiction of the ugly truth of cultural event planning. The waste in the room was separated into four categories: compost,  garbage, recyclable and reusable waste.

During the event, the audience was encouraged to add to the pile.
